Kizkalesi and Around
Kizkalesi had this name 85 years ago. As a result of the legend told by the people of this region, the castle got the name of the Maiden’s Castle.
Once upon a time, the king of this region had a daughter and the king loved his daughter very much. According to the legend, a fortune teller made a prediction to the King. In accordance with this prediction; the daughter of the King would be dying as a result of snakebite.
Hereupon, the King had built a castle in the sea in order to protect his girl. Time passed and the girl grew in the castle. However, the legend was inevitable and a snake came out the fruit basket for the princess, bit the princess and killed her.
So, the King lived a lonely life. And these events caused the name of this castle to be the Maiden’s Castle.
The Heaven and Hell
450 steps in the Heaven Cave will guide you. A small church had been constructed to the entrance of this cave by Saint. Paulus. You can reach the ground with 150 steps after the entrance.
There is another cave near these caves; the name of the cave is Astim Cave. The depth of this cave is 20 meters and there are various colors of stalactites and stalagmites. The air temperature is constantly 14 degrees and the humidity ratio is among 85–98%. It is said that this cave is good for asthma patients and it is believed that the wishes as entering the cave will be true.
The Uzuncaburc
It lies down 30 km north of the Silifke and its height from the sea is 1200 meters. The city had been active in the periods of Rome and Byzantine. Also, there are antique theatre and Stone graves in addition to the Zeus Temple.
The Adam Rocks
You can reach the Devil Valley by the turnout of 1 km branching to the West on the 7th km of the road to the village of Huseyinler form Kizkalesi. There are ten different compositions caved on the rocks. These figures are 11 men, 4 women, 2 children and one chamois figures.
It is supposed that these ruins may remain from the Prime Hellenistic era or the Early Roman era.
